1985 MUSTANG GT

85 at Cana

My first Mustang. Brand new, haven't started to mess with it yet!

Rockers and Headers

This is the first modification I have pictures of.  Motorsport / Crane Cobra 1.72:1 aluminum rockers and JBA headers. (1993-1994)

Cylinders

Cylinders look pretty good after 66,000 miles, no ridge and you can still see the cross hatch!! Mobil 1 is good stuff.

Wreck

This is what happens when you combine an SVO Master Cylinder and stock '87 and later 60mm calipers and snooze behind the wheel. I couldn't lock the tires with both feet! I rear ended a 89 Pontiac Parisianne, (Chevy Caprice in disguise). Unfortunatley, he was on the brakes hard too, so his rear end was way up in the air. Caught his bumper right across the head lights. Took out the hood, front cover, top of the radiator core support, condensor, radiator, water pump, fan and lots of little stuff. Fortunatlely the fenders weren't tweaked. This was July of '99. That pretty much totals a 15 year old Mustang even if it only has 70,000 miles and is in great condition!

Front Quarter

I test drove a stock 94 GT, thinking I might take some of the parts from the '85 and hop up a newer car. What a dog!! With all the money I had already poured into this car, I couldn't let it go. I decided to fix it. It needed paint anyway (faded) so I had Crown Coachworks fix the wreck damage and re-paint the whole car. This paint looks nicer than the stock paint ever did! They clear coated it, believe it or not 1985s were not clear coated, 1986s were! Replaced the stock hood with a Cervini 2.5" raised cowl hood. Replaced the GT front cover with an LX front cover because a new GT cover was $500 and the LX was only $150. I never used the fog lights anyway and I like the cleaner look of the LX cover! Painted a lot of the gray trim body color, I like this look a lot! The Cobra R wheels and 275/40/17s in back and 245/45/17s in front don't hurt either! While Crown had the car I had them weld in some Kenny Brown Double Cross Subframe Connectors and roll the rear fender lips too. When I got it home I upgraded the front calipers to 73mm Lincoln MKVII calipers. These work perfectly with the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe rear disks and SVO master cylinder, now I can stop!!

Rear Quarter

I converted the car to 5 lugs for the Cobra R wheels using Lincoln Mark VII rotors in front. In back, I got stock length Moser Engineering axles with 5 lugs. I re-drilled the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe rear rotors for 5 lugs.

Rear

Big meats! Now I have enough traction that it doesn't spin hopelessly in first gear!! It handles great too!

Front Wheel

In front, I used Dupli-Color High Heat Ceramic 1200 degree aluminum color paint on the calipers. I painted the edges and centers of the rotors with flat black 1500 degreeVHT Flame Proof coating.

Rear Wheel

In back, I left the calipers as they came from Stainless Steel Brakes, they look pretty good after eleven years! I painted the edges and centers of the rotors with black High Heat Rust-Oleum since they had surface rust and VHT needs a clean non-oxidized surface.

Lowered

Lowered with Ford Motorsport M-5300-B Lowering Springs. Now it doesn't look like a four wheel drive pickup truck. The only rubbing has been the rear tires on the tail pipes, and that is only under extremely aggresive driving!

I’ve finally started with the fuel injection conversion. I thought I blew a head gasket a few weeks ago, so I tore it all the way down to the short block. Head gaskets were OK, it was a leaking intake gasket. Well, no sense in bolting all the carbureted stuff back on, so here goes:
